Shanghai Wildlife Animal Park, set up with the joint efforts of Shanghai municipal people’s government and the State Forestry, is the fist state-level wildlife park in China. With an area of 153 hectares or 2,300 acreages, the animal park is located in Nanhui of Pudong New Area and it’s about 35 kilometers away from the city center. Officially opened to the public on November 18, 1995 and with an investment of RMB300 million, the park is among the first selections of 5-A level tourist destinations approved by the state. The wildlife park has a collection of over 200 kinds of representative and precious animals. The number of animals amounts to more than 10,000. Among them are China’s unique giant panda, golden monkey, golden takin,etc. Besides, visitors could also see animals from abroad like the giraffe, zebra, antelope, white rhino cheetah. Shanghai Wildlife Animal Park ranks first as regards the number of highly protected unique animals among the world’s wildlife parks.
